Otherside Will Bring a New Adventure to the Metaverse
A Small Step That Grew Larger
The technological company Yuga Labs focused on blockchain and decentralized applications notably most famous for its project “The Otherside”. It is a collection of 10,000 random 3D-generated characters or Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) living in the Ethereum blockchain. Every single character has its own distinct feature, body type, clothes, and accessories. They were released to the public in August of 2021 and gained popularity quickly among collectors and investors. In the beginning, an Otherside NFT was worth approximately $150, but the demand grew and prices skyrocketed with some now going for at least a few million dollars.
See You on the Otherside
In order to create something new for their company, Yuga Lab started to think of how they could evolve. The two founders had already been thinking about how to merge all their NFTs into a combined ecosystem. That´s when the idea for Otherside came up. A shared digital universe where users could own land and use their NFTs to turn into playable characters. They sold 55,000 Otherdeed NFTs linked to an owned virtual land. Wylie Aronow, one of the co-founders of Yuga Labs, had said that every project they do has a deep importance and Otherside is at that intersection. In July 2022 the first invited test was run and with over 4600 people joining they got a glimpse of what the world-building would be like. A litepaper was released shortly after the test which stated that they are excited to see what more the Otherside could bring to both gameplay and to the metaverse as a whole.
The Latest Update in the Metaverse
Yuga Labs announced that they will go live with its second test event from the Otherside metaverse on March 25th. It has been made clear that Otherdeed holders and Otherside users (Voyagers) will enjoy an interactive gaming experience led by its team captains. The Otherdeed holders will have priority access and can invite a guest to join. Yuga Lab is also trying to update the supporting countries to enable more players around the world to join in. Yuga Labs raised $450 million last March through a funding round to fund the Otherside metaverse. So far their NFT and Otherverse journey has been very successful with a great many followers it is going to be very interesting to see what the future has in stock for the metaverse.
